The best time of day for quad biking in Dubai is early morning (first slot after 7:00 AM) from May to September, and mid-to-late afternoon through sunset from November to March. Midday is the one window we steer riders away from year-round. Heat, glare, and flat light make it the least enjoyable slot on the dunes.
It all depends on the month you’re travelling, who’s riding, and what you want from the experience: cooler temperatures, golden-hour photos, quieter dunes, or the lowest price.
We run quad bike tours daily at Al Badayer (the “Big Red” dunes), and the same question comes up at the briefing tent every day.
This guide covers what we’ve learned across seasons, so you can pick a slot that fits your trip.
| Time of day | Best for | Heat level | Light for photos | Crowd level |
| Early morning (7:00-9:30 AM) | Summer riders, families with kids, first-timers | Coolest of the day | Soft, low-angle | Lowest |
| Late morning (9:30 AM-12:00 PM) | Winter riders, flexible schedules | Moderate in winter, hot in summer | Bright, flatter | Moderate |
| Midday (12:00-3:00 PM) | Winter only, if nothing else is available | Highest | Harsh, high contrast | Moderate |
| Late afternoon (3:00-5:00 PM) | Winter and shoulder season | Cooling down | Warm, strong colour | High |
| Sunset window | Couples, photographers, “once-in-a-trip” rides | Pleasant | Best of the day | Highest, so book early |
If you want one slot that works across most of the year, aim for early morning in summer and the hour before sunset in winter.
A quad bike ride in the Dubai desert is a physical, outdoor activity in an exposed environment. Time of day changes four things that decide whether the ride feels amazing or just tiring:
Understanding those four variables answers most “when should I book?” questions on its own.
Season matters as much as the hour. Dubai’s weather splits into a long hot season and a shorter, mild one. WeatherSpark’s long-term data puts the hot season at roughly late May to late September and the cool season at roughly early December to early March.
This is the most comfortable stretch for a desert quad bike tour. Afternoon highs sit in the low-to-high 20s °C, and January is the coolest month. Sunset arrives early, around 5:30-6:15 PM, so the golden-hour slot falls inside normal operating hours.
Best time of day in winter: late morning through the sunset window. You have real flexibility, and the sunset ride is the pick for most couples and photographers.
Temperatures climb into the mid-30s °C by April, and October still feels warm in the afternoon. Mornings and late afternoons are comfortable, but midday starts to wear on first-timers.
Best time of day in shoulder season: early morning or the last two hours before sunset.
Dubai summers are hot and humid, with August afternoon highs around 40°C. You can ride safely in summer with the right planning, but slot choice matters most here. Sunrise is around 5:30 AM, so by 7:00 AM the desert is bright but far more tolerable than at noon.
Best time of day in summer: the earliest slot available. Book it, hydrate hard, and wear light, breathable layers. Our guide to what to wear for quad biking in Dubai covers the full kit.
Morning is the most underrated slot, and it’s our default recommendation for most travellers outside winter.
Why riders love it:
Trade-offs: an early start (hotel pickup is earlier still), and you won’t get the sunset colours.
Morning suits families with children, first-time riders still building confidence, and anyone travelling in the warmer months. If you’re comparing options, our kids quad biking Dubai packages are best booked in this window, when kids have the most energy and the heat is lowest.
Honest answer: midday is the weakest slot, and in summer we advise against it.
Why it’s tougher:
When it’s fine: in December through February, midday riding is comfortable for most adults. If a midday slot is the only one that fits your itinerary during the cool season, it still gives you a great ride. Just bring sunglasses, sunscreen and water.
If photos and atmosphere top your list, this is the slot to book. Sunset quad biking in the Dubai desert delivers the long shadows and deep orange light that make the dunes look the way they do in travel photography.
Why it’s popular:
What to know before booking:
Guests regularly tell us the sunset ride was the best part of their Dubai trip. One reviewer called it the perfect way to end the day. For a longer evening, you can combine a ride with a desert safari with quad bike package, which adds dune bashing, sandboarding, a camel ride and a BBQ dinner.
Our standard quad bike tours operate during daylight hours. If you want an evening in the desert, the practical route is a desert safari combo. It pairs a quad bike ride with sunset, a fire show, live entertainment and a BBQ buffet. The Standard Desert Safari with Quad Bike (from AED 399 per person) and the Premium version (from AED 499 per person) both run 4-6 hours with hotel pickup and drop-off included.
Different riders have different priorities. Here’s how we advise each group:
Families with kids: Early morning in summer, or late morning in winter. Kids tire faster in heat, and the safety briefing goes better when everyone is fresh. Browse our kids quad bikes options for age-appropriate bikes.
Couples: Sunset, without question. A couple quad bike ride on a 2-seater at golden hour is the combination most couples remember.
First-timers and beginners: Morning. The cooler temperature and lighter crowd give you more breathing room to learn the controls with your guide.
Thrill-seekers and experienced riders: Late afternoon. Cooler sand and good visibility make it a strong window for pushing harder on dune climbs. If you want more power, look at the adult quad bikes lineup, from 250cc to the Raptor 700cc, or the dirt bike rental options.
Photographers and content creators: Sunset, or the first hour after sunrise in summer.
Budget travellers: Check with our team about off-peak timing. Weekday and morning slots usually have the most availability, and we run seasonal offers throughout the year.
Groups wanting variety: Pair a quad ride with a buggy. Our dune buggy tours combo offers 15% off when you book both.
Heat is the main factor to plan around between May and September. Drink water before you arrive, carry a bottle, and take breaks when your guide offers them. The desert climate is dry and hot, and dehydration can set in quickly under a helmet.
Windy or hazy days reduce visibility and make riding less enjoyable. If conditions aren’t suitable on your scheduled day, we reschedule so you aren’t riding in poor conditions. Goggles and a scarf or bandana help with blowing sand on any day.
Rain is uncommon, but it does happen in the cooler months, with March tending to see the most rainy days. If the desert is wet, the tour may be adjusted for safety.
Operating rhythms can shift during Ramadan, and public holidays push demand up sharply. Confirm your slot and book early around Eid and New Year.
Our tours run in the Al Badayer Desert, known as Big Red for its towering crimson dunes. It’s roughly 45 minutes from Downtown Dubai and about 30 minutes from Sharjah. The terrain mixes open flats that suit beginners with steeper slopes for confident riders, so the time of day you choose shapes the experience as much as the bike does.
Early light picks out the ridgelines. Sunset light turns the sand deep red. Midday light is the flattest. All three are safe, but they feel different. If you’re staying in Sharjah or want a closer base, see our quad biking Sharjah page.
Slot choice and duration work together. Our packages run 30 minutes, 1 hour and 90 minutes:
For a full price breakdown by bike and duration, see our ATV quad bike rentals page.
Your clothing should match the slot, not just the season:
Helmets and goggles are provided with every ride.
We operate as part of ESA Tours, licensed by the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM). Every ride is led by certified guides who are first-aid trained, supported by a GPS-enabled safety vehicle, and run on a fleet that is inspected before riding. You can learn more about us or read verified reviews on Google and TripAdvisor. Pricing is transparent, and the team is reachable around the clock.
For most travellers, the best time of day for quad biking in Dubai is early morning in the warm months and the hour or two before sunset in the cool months. Skip midday in summer, and book sunset slots early if the light matters to you.
